MODULE 2: OVERVIEW

Well done! You're onto the second module. In this module you will get an overview of the main parts of your Alongsiders movement. This module will give you the BIG picture. But don't worry, we'll give you more details in later modules. Start by watching this animated video about the steps for starting an Alongsiders movement.

BIBLE STUDY

In Ezekiel 37, God shows the prophet Ezekiel a valley of dry bones. God asks Ezekiel what he sees. The prophet says that he sees only dry bones. God says, "You see dry bones, but I see a vast army!"

Often we only have eyes to see the brokenness and weakness of our young people. Even our pastors and church leaders may have lost hope and can see only dry bones.

But God sees the potential for a vast army! An army of goodness and love. Read and meditate on these words, and pray about how they might relate to your Alongsiders movement:

"Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these dry bones, that they may live." So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.  (Ezekiel 37:9-10)

In this passage it is God who gives eyes to see what He wants to do, and it is God who sends the Holy Spirit to breathe life into what is lifeless. What does this say about the role of God in your Alongsiders movement?

In this passage what is the role of the Man of God (Ezekiel)? Firstly, it is to allow his eyes to be opened and then it is to pray and invite the Spirit of God to work. These are the things God is calling you to.

Because we do not use money to recruit Alongsiders, we are entirely dependent on the work of the Spirit in their hearts. Not a single young Christian can respond to the invitation to become an Alongsider unless God is already at work in their lives. And He is!

Pray that the Spirit will be poured out on your thirsty land. Pray that God will raise up an army of young people ready to lay down their lives for Him and for their neighbors. Pray that there will be life where there was once death. Pray!
